Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information What Does a Roof Cost? (whatdoesaroofcost.com) collects, why, and the choices you have. The site is operated by MLC LLC ("we", "us"). Questions go to hello@whatdoesaroofcost.com.

The short version

• We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful.
• We don't ask for your name or email address to use the site.
• We don't sell your personal information, and we don't run advertising networks on the site.

Information collected automatically

Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4. It sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you visit, how you arrived, your general location (city or region, based on your IP address), device and browser type, and how long you stay. We use these reports to understand which pages help people and what to fix. Google processes this information under its own terms; see how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.

Server logs. The site is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify receives standard request information, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. See Netlify's privacy policy.

Local pricing. Some pages try to show prices for the city nearest you. To do that, your browser asks our own site (not a third party) for a rough location. Our host, Netlify, works that out from your IP address when the request arrives, and we send back only approximate coordinates and your state. We don't log or store them. Your browser keeps the result for up to 24 hours so the lookup isn't repeated, and you can clear it by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Information you give us

We don't currently collect email addresses or other contact details through forms on this site.

Email. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message, and we use it to reply.

Tools. The roof cost calculator runs in your browser and saves your inputs in your browser's local storage so they are there when you come back. The inputs are not sent to us. You can clear it any time by clearing your browser's site data.

How we share information

We share information only with the service providers that run the site for us (Netlify for hosting and forms, Google for analytics), with the affiliate partners described above, or when the law requires it. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

How long we keep it

Google Analytics keeps detailed, user-level data for no more than 14 months. We keep emails you send us as long as needed to answer them and keep a record of the conversation.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or unsubscribe at any time by emailing hello@whatdoesaroofcost.com. We'll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, state law may give you additional rights, and we'll honor requests from anywhere in the U.S. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site works without them.

Do Not Track. Browsers offer a "Do Not Track" setting. There is no common standard for how sites should respond to it, so this site does not change its behavior when it receives that signal. You can still opt out of Google Analytics with the add-on above.

California residents. Under the California Online Privacy Protection Act, this policy describes the categories of information we collect, the third parties we share it with, how you can review and request changes to it, how we respond to Do Not Track signals, and how we'll notify you of changes.

Children

What Does a Roof Cost? is written for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, email hello@whatdoesaroofcost.com and we'll delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, and we limit who can access the information we hold. No method of storing or sending information online is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update it on this page and change the effective date above. If a change affects how we use information we already have, we'll say so clearly here.
